Free Walking Tours

Top-rated walking tours in Singapore!

Not Just Another Free Tour
Most free tours are rehearsed scripts read by hobbyists. Indie Singapore is different. We are a collective of full-time guides and heritage researchers.

We believe that budget shouldn’t be a barrier to culture. That’s why we run these tours on a Pay-As-You-Wish basis. You get a premium, deep-dive experience—the same quality as our paid private tours—and you decide the value at the end. No scripts, no tourist traps, just real stories.

Discover the real city with the best Free Walking Tour Singapore has to offer. Indie Singapore provides professional heritage walks through Chinatown, Little India, the Marina Bay, the Singapore River, Bugis and Kampong Gelam.

We believe that walking tours are the best way to see a city. It is slower and more deliberate, and through this, you get to really experience the sights, sounds and flavours that Singapore has to offer.

Our guides are all locals who would like to be your insider friend on this little red dot. We cannot wait to show you the latest happenings and our favourite hang out places (especially all the secret food places that we love).

Upcoming Tours

See A Different District Every Day

Our Free Tour schedule for now (More details below):
Mondays: “Our Singapore Story” Tour down the Singapore River
Tuesdays: Our Signature Chinatown Tour
Wednesdays: Our “Balik Kampong” Tour through Kampong Glam and Bugis
Thursdays: Our “Saris, Spice and Everything Nice” Tour through Little India
Fridays: Our Signature Chinatown Tours

At Indie Singapore, we believe that there is more to our city state of Singapore than what you see on the surface. Go beyond our beautiful attractions, and you will find that some of the most fascinating things about Singapore can be found just off the well-beaten track.

It doesn’t matter if you are transiting in Singapore for a few hours or a local who has been living here your entire life, we invite you to join us in looking beyond the shiny shopping malls and the air conditioned walkways.

All our tours are lovingly curated by locals. We sincerely believe that by walking with us, you will find out more about the nuances of living in Singapore. We will show you the parts we love, but we will not shy away from answering the more difficult questions as well.

Pay-As-You-Wish

These tours are FREE, but tips are welcome (our guides receive no other compensation or commissions).

We believe that tips given should be voluntary and in direct proportion to the quality of the tour and the budget of the traveler.

There is no obligation to tip! Having said that, we kindly ask that you consider the professionalism and work of the guide to decide what the tour was worth.

Be Fair

FAQHow much should I tip?

  • There is no fixed amount. Most guests tip between SGD$25 – 70 SGD per person if they enjoyed the experience, which goes directly to the guide.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes. Unlike mass-market tours, we cap our groups to ensure everyone can hear the guide and ask questions. We recommend booking 24 hours ahead.

Is this tour suitable for kids/elderly?

Our routes are generally flat and encompass about 2km of walking with breaks. There will be gentle steps along the way, and we try to find air conditioned pitstops during the tour

When do you open up slots for booking?

Slots for the coming month will generally be up on Day 1 of the month prior.

For example, you will be able to book our February tours from 1 Jan onwards

Can I book for a large group?

We do not accept large group/organization bookings for our Free Tours, as they are intended for individual/small family signups only (max 5 persons/signup).

The Free Walking Tours follow a set schedule and are not customizable. We place a limit on the number of sign ups per tour to ensure that everyone has a chance to go on the tour with us.

For larger groups and/or corporations, we recommend engaging us for our private customized paid tours. That way you can customize what you would like to see as well as set a date/time that is suitable for your group.

I am a Singapore tour guide/tour guide student. Am I allowed to book onto these tours?

Since these tours are free, in the spirit of professional courtesy and to enhance the quality of our tours, we kindly request that tourism students or tour guides declare their profession when registering for our tours.

This declaration ensures that our tours are engaging and informative, tailored to the background and interests of our participants. Please note that participation is subject to approval by Indie Singapore

We did the singapore river tour, which gave us a general history and interesting stories about singapore. The tour was great. Our tour guide - Wei was very knowledgable and enthusiastic about Singapore. The tour ended up lasting more than 4 hrs and Wei even followed up with a very detailed email answering some questions that came up on the tour (most importantly - what is your favourite restaurant in sg). Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to learn more about singapore.

We took the tour with Eunice on the 30th of March. We have done food tours in Europe and the US and I have to say this was by far one of the best. Eunice was so knowledgeable and patient (our daughter was late to the start of the tour!). We would highly recommend this tour for a greater insight into food and culture in Singapore throughout the ages. Also, the Pandan Chiffon Cake was to die for! Thank you Eunice.

Amazing tour. Our guide was super engaging and gave countless of fun facts and explanations that will surely make your stay in Singapore more interesting. Definitely much better than I expected. The quality is similar to some of the best European free walking tours but in Singapore. A rare gem!! Don't think about it twice.

My boyfriend and I went on the Chinatown tour really not expecting much but was left with a wealth of new knowledge about this little street. Wei was our guide for the day and time just flew by because we were so entertained with all the historical facts and trivia about the area. I would say this tour is perfect for both singaporeans and tourists alike and i will surely be introducing my foreign friends to this tour when they visit. Thanks a lot, Wei! :)

Wei is a knowledgeable and extremely friendly guide who has clearly done his research and planned the trail very meticulously! The whole session felt like we were hanging out with friends rather than a formal tour, which made it even enjoyable.

We had a lovely time with Wei on our Whimsical Walk Through the Blair Plain Conservation Area, learning about the beautiful and colourful houses of Blair Road and trying snacks at local shops in Everton Park. He was such a knowledgeable guide! We would definitely recommend guests visiting Singapore to join Wei on one of his tours, and we hope to join him on another tour soon!

Dear friends arranged a tour with India Singapore as a leaving gift for our family and we thoroughly enjoyed learning about the interesting history and intriguing details of Kampong Glam. We have been in Singapore 12 years but were pleasantly surprised to learn many new facts and to see everything through fresh eyes was great fun.  Our guide Eunice was very friendly, knowledgeable, fun and spending time with her was delightful!!

My wife and I took part in the Traditional Taste Tour on a wet Sat morning in July. It was just the 2 of us with our guide. Our tour guide Wei was knowledgeable and warm, and his passion for preserving our traditional flavours was palpable. We enjoyed the 3.5-hours tour tremendously, and gained a renewed appreciation for our rich hawker culture and history. The places visited were local Singapore brands which had lasted for many years. We sincerely do hope the brands' heritage will continue so that it will not be lost forever like many before. It was time well spent and we were glad we signed up with Indie Singapore. We highly recommend anyone who wants to know a bit more on local Singapore heritage and history to sign up with Indie Singapore tours.
